And it was really cool how the missions, outposts, pursuits, etc. I liked Spider-Man a lot as well, but didn't find its combat, stealth, and side missions to be as refined and entertaining as Arkham Knight's. My NG+ playthrough was even more enjoyable than my first because I didn't have to worry about gathering the Riddler trophies in order to progress that storyline. It's been some years since I've played Arkham Knight, but it was arguably my favorite game of last gen. Ugh talking about it only makes me want to play it now lol). Their choice of VFX mixed w/ the rain creates such a perfect atmosphere (there's also destructible environments and once shit hits the fan, the game is a sight to behold. (AK does traversal really really well IMO).Įverthing feels weighty and crunchy. AK does a good job of making sure you're always leveling up in some way and gaining weapons/skills that feel like a meaningful upgrade, so even if it's tank gameplay, you're fucking shit up as Batman still (I'm v glad they tried something new for the third one.)Īlso, launching from the batmobile (and upgrading to the highest skill point for this) will never not be one of the most fun things to do in video games. I hardly, HARDLY ever replay games, but Arkham Knight's gameplay is smooth as butter and very few games come close to achieving the level of cohesion in regards to art style + gameplay. Haven't played Spider-Man yet but Arkham Knight is a game that once I start playing, I can't stop. There are also not as many options to take thugs out in stealth mode compared to even AA. Such a drag, I prefer stealth whenever possible. Then onto stealth, I thought the construction site missions could be all stealth, but it seems at some point, no matter what the enemies will figure out you are there and start shooting at you, no matter how well you silently webbed them all up. It gets way too tiring and feels like I need to play the game in shorter bursts. First of all, the game just throws hordes of mooks at you, and it's a much tougher balancing act than any of the Arkham games. However, Spider-Man's combat and stealth leave a lot to be desired. Hopefully, they meet the high of AA, AC, and even AO boss fights. I'm not far enough in it, but I do feel that the boss segments have been impressive. There are things I like about Spider-Man that Arkham Knight just doesn't have, it has a more open world, it has some actual boss fights. I am a huge Arkham fan, and I recently acquired a PS5 to play Spider-Man.
BATMAN ARKHAM KNIGHT PC VS PS4 SERIES
Both games though are really great, and it’s a little weird to have to choose one over the other, but I digress.Īs far as the Arkham series for me.

While it’s not as big as Spider-Man, and it’s main campaign gets shit on by the web head’s, the rest of the game is absolutely jam packed with content, a really healthy amount of different characters to play as, graphics and art style that still very much hold up and are even competitive in 2022, smooth as silk gameplay mechanics, and a still fairly large, dense map that you can traverse however you want, with no zero loading screens. Overall, at least for me, Arkham Knight is just overall the better game.

It’s a brilliant game, one that I’ve beaten like 4 separate times. That said, Spider-Man PS4, compared directly with Arkham Knight, does take it in the narrative, and scale department.

I think for me, the Arkham games as a whole are still the premier super hero/comic book video game series. The details and visual fidelity are through the roof. And, especially on PC with all of the settings turned up, AK genuinely to me looks like a current gen, or at least, very late last gen game. The DLC campaigns with the likes of Croc, Freeze, Ra’s, and Hatter were all very well done, however. It’s just a shame though that the base narrative in AK kinda sucked. The Batmobile, narrative aside, was and is a super fun edition to the gameplay loop, and plays incredibly well for it having essentially been Rocksteady’s first foray into playable vehicles.

The free flow combat system is as smooth and responsive as it could possibly be at this point, and, to have a massive cliche, you really do feel like you’re Batman, and are deeply rooted into the Batman mythos. The fact that there is absolutely zero loading in the former once you’ve gotten into the game is incredible, and something that wasn’t common at all back in 2015 when AK came out. I think on both a technical, gameplay, and immersive level, Arkham Knight has it over Spider-Man.
